Smart Goals have a rich and fascinating history that dates back many decades and cannot be attributed to a single individual. However, the concept of setting clear and specific goals can be traced back to the early 20th century. One of the pioneers in this field was Dr. Edwin Locke, a psychologist who conducted research into the relationship between goal setting and performance. Dr. Locke's work laid the foundation for what we now know as Smart Goals.

In the 1960s, George T. Doran introduced the SMART acronym in an article published in Management Review. This acronym provided a structured framework for setting Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound goals. Doran's article revolutionized the way individuals and organizations approached goal setting.

MISSING - NEED to write about Peter Drucker's management by objectives concept.

Since then, SMART Goals have evolved and been adopted by countless individuals and businesses worldwide. They have become a cornerstone of personal and professional development, providing a roadmap for success.

Understanding the historical development of SMART Goals helps us appreciate the wealth of knowledge and research that supports their effectiveness.
